Our last month has been riddled with sickness (cold symptoms, cough, etc.) so our tot school learning was dependent on how we were all feeling and energy levels. I wanted to blog them regardless of how much we accomplished, because when I looked back at pictures I saved of our activities and learning I was surprised we did more than I had originally thought (and some fun stuff, too!)
There are a number of pictures since I will be covering 3 weeks worth of units in this post.
We started our fall nature themed week at the library to pick up our reserved library books. Our favorite book was 'Leaves' by David Ezra Stein.
They had a scavenger hunt set up and we decided to take part in it. After several clues from the librarian we finished it! Tricky to say the least. They told me their 20 year old intern was quite intentional about it being difficult (he's a mopey college boy and that made me giggle).
She worked so hard and I made sure she knew it was a good thing to ask for help when she needed it. There was another mama and little girl doing it so we helped each other a bit along the way.

She earned her prize and chose a duck with purple hair.
When Josh text me that he was coming home from work because he didn't feel well I knew we needed to stay home as much as possible to get better and not share his cold. Leighton and I stayed well for several days and even went to church while Josh stayed home to rest. Thankfully we got a play date in with our friend Lawson before the sickness hit our household! Leighton started having symptoms of coughing, runny nose, low grade fever but the worst of it only lasted 12 hours. I was able to find children's classic stories on YouTube and they were a hit!
HERE is a channel we really enjoy.
She was watching the Very Hungry Caterpillar this day.
After several days of being cooped up in our little apartment, we went for a family walk to get fresh air. This was truly our only 'nature' moment for fall nature week. I found this theme to be difficult but it's a theme to maybe plan a hike for next year. We do have another nature week planned next year with more materials planned for it.
She loves to learn shapes. It's an area I think she'd be pleased to visit each day, and we often do. We use flash cards from the dollar tree along with worksheets to practice tracing and counting sides. I set up a little activity of hand drawn shapes and letters and she used her mini teddy bears to line them up.
She has improved greatly with tracing and pen control. She does, however, request to color her tracing work in after she's completed it. I try to snap a photo before she colors them in.
We did have more prepared for pumpkin week and we had a lot of fun with it! We decorated a 'Marshall' pumpkin, had several worksheets and activities and also (unrelated) pulled a craft from our library craft packets and completed a diorama which led to conversation about rivers and lakes. Our favorite library book was 'It's a Pumpkin!' by Wendy McClure.
Lastly, Leighton had Superhero Day at church on the 31st. Her planned costume was Wonder Woman so this worked out great for us. I'm also including a precious craft/photo from the week we went while Josh stayed behind to rest. (We missed one week of church while she still had a cough.) Mrs Jessica was also Wonder Woman so we had to get a photo of the two of them. We asked if she did her October memory verse in class and she chose not to (totally fine with us, but we knew she knew it and was so confident about it.) So we asked her in the lobby if she wanted to do it for Mrs Jessica and she said it with confidence to earn her Airhead.
We finished the evening by visiting grandpa and grandma's house for a treat and some play time. Then we came home and put in the Tigger movie, had a special bath time with glow sticks and tub paint and then bed time.
With heart from our home,
Jordan
