Our Daily Schedule

I wrote this schedule a few months back. I didn't like the way our days were playing out. Leighton was watching a nauseating amount of TV while I worked through a fractured back. We were doing what was needed and helpful for the painful days, and that's okay! I think there is a season for everything and sometimes we do need help in different ways--even through screens.

My back still isn't healed but I knew I couldn't stay dependent on screen time and quick snacks instead of nutritious meals to make our days flow well, so we had to be uncomfortable for a short while before this became our norm.

Most days we don't follow this schedule perfectly, but it does give us a good guide for the day and allows us time in different areas that are important to us as a family. We've cut out screens completely except for a weekend movie as a family that we check out from the library so no inappropriate ads play. I plan to do a screen free post soon and share more on this topic--but it was very difficult to get to a healthy place with this and I've learned a lot!

I have viewed many toddler schedules online and I can get inspired by them but also when they don't end up working well for us, I can become very discouraged and fall into a funk. Does anyone else quickly go from a 'this is such a joke to think I could have done this!' mentality to 'I am such a joke!' These thoughts have come easier in motherhood and you are NOT alone if you have them! This season is difficult but also so wonderful.

Each day does not go perfectly, but we've found a good balance for our family.

See our schedule below.

I'm very Type-A and enjoy this sort of thing! I'll share those ideas in separate posts, but wanted to share the main schedule we go by today.

I know seeing other mama's schedules in the same season as you can be very helpful, just take it with a grain of salt! No one has a schedule that flows perfectly. It takes prayer and patience and stretching.

Single Serving Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe

I had a few hours to myself today and decided to search for a good single serving chocolate chip cookie recipe. I found one by cookingclassy.com and thankfully it turned out so great! It was similar to the taste and size of Crumbl Cookies chocolate chip cookie (they are my favorite!) The dough is a very crumbly consistency so I recommend once you have your baking sheet lined with parchment paper to just dump it on top and form it into a large disc. I had a hard time trying to get the dough to come together so I opted to do this instead. See the recipe below! Ingredients: 2 TBSP butter (I used unsalted) 3 TBSP packed light-brown sugar. 1 pinch of salt. 1 TBSP whisked egg (crack egg in bowl and mix up well then scoop out 1 TBSP and add to your bowl.) 1/4 tsp vanilla. 1/3 cup all purpose flour. 1/8 tsp baking soda. 3-4 TBSP chocolate chips.  Recipe: Melt butter in microwave until only a little left is unmelted. mix together so that all is melted. Place butter in fridge to cool s...

Baking Unit | Tot School Week 15

Baking Unit wasn't as hands on as I had hoped, but we have another week of Christmas festivities to make up for that! We did several worksheets to practice prewriting skills and also decorated a cupcake chef hat! A simple sensory bin was made from oats and some kitchen tools I had on hand. She scooped the oats into the cupcake tins and made 'cupcakes'. The most exciting part of baking week was making gingerbread houses with Grandma. She mostly taste tested but was quite excited about building them! We got started on Christmas books early so didn't check out specific baking books, although a forever favorite of ours is Who At All the Cookie Dough? By Karen Beaumont. We look forward to more baking activities while celebrating the holidays. With heart from our home,  Jordan
