Zoo Week| Tot School Week 1

Last Monday we started tot school in our home. If you're curious what this means please click HERE to see a description.

Our first theme was Zoo--I like to plan around outings and trips we have planned and we always do the zoo on my birthday so I made sure to have this theme for our first week.

Stand out books for us this week were Zoo Zoom by Candace Ryan and IVAN by Katherine Applegate. We also like to check out many specific animal books from the library for this week.
Our worksheets varied from matching small to big, line (prewriting) practice, glue practice and also some pre-school workbook work.

The crafts we chose were a paper roll giraffe and wooden shaped animals I found at Dollar Tree. We also made a zoo themed sensory bin.

We follow our church curriculum for bible learning and the verse this month is 'We have the LORD our God to help us." 2 Chronicles 32:8. Memorable moment: Leighton reciting the verse and then saying '2 Chronicles Donald Duck."

She has been loving the story of Daniel and the Lion's Den and also Jonah and the Whale. I found that her 'Beginners Bible' has a Youtube channel with tons of bible story videos. We have watched both stories a half dozen times this week.

We also spent time outside where she jumped in puddles and we tracked a caterpillar until we could no longer see him in the grass.

Our week finished up with a trip to the Dickerson Park Zoo in Springfield, MO.

The elephant 'Hugo' put on quite a show for us. Also, our brave girl walked through the log tunnel by herself and fed the petting zoo animals! She didn't want a thing to do with them last year. She had a blast and has continued talking about the animals. She would tell them 'You're a good boy!' and 'You're soft!' like she was giving them all pep talks.

Single Serving Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe

I had a few hours to myself today and decided to search for a good single serving chocolate chip cookie recipe. I found one by cookingclassy.com and thankfully it turned out so great! It was similar to the taste and size of Crumbl Cookies chocolate chip cookie (they are my favorite!) The dough is a very crumbly consistency so I recommend once you have your baking sheet lined with parchment paper to just dump it on top and form it into a large disc. I had a hard time trying to get the dough to come together so I opted to do this instead. See the recipe below! Ingredients: 2 TBSP butter (I used unsalted) 3 TBSP packed light-brown sugar. 1 pinch of salt. 1 TBSP whisked egg (crack egg in bowl and mix up well then scoop out 1 TBSP and add to your bowl.) 1/4 tsp vanilla. 1/3 cup all purpose flour. 1/8 tsp baking soda. 3-4 TBSP chocolate chips.  Recipe: Melt butter in microwave until only a little left is unmelted. mix together so that all is melted. Place butter in fridge to cool s...

Baking Unit | Tot School Week 15

Baking Unit wasn't as hands on as I had hoped, but we have another week of Christmas festivities to make up for that! We did several worksheets to practice prewriting skills and also decorated a cupcake chef hat! A simple sensory bin was made from oats and some kitchen tools I had on hand. She scooped the oats into the cupcake tins and made 'cupcakes'. The most exciting part of baking week was making gingerbread houses with Grandma. She mostly taste tested but was quite excited about building them! We got started on Christmas books early so didn't check out specific baking books, although a forever favorite of ours is Who At All the Cookie Dough? By Karen Beaumont. We look forward to more baking activities while celebrating the holidays. With heart from our home,  Jordan
