I love organizing my daughters clothing, shoes and accessories. I always have for the most part, but have gotten a bit better at knowing what works for us when it comes to storing clothing. When her clothes were tiny, we mostly folded them and hung long pajamas, dresses, etc. But as she's grown I've divided up clothing by type and quality. The most helpful thing I've implemented in organizing her things has been creating an 'every day' drawer of clothing. It holds tops, pants and short sleeve pajamas that she can wear daily at home or playing outside because they are stained or very worn. Her daddy really appreciates this because if he's the one getting her ready, he can pick a top and bottom without worry that he's putting her in church clothes or a nicer outfit.
Also, I store all outgrown clothing that I decided to not donate in storage bins in her closet. They are each labeled with the size or sizes that are inside, and if we have another baby girl in the future the ease of pulling the correct size bin out and washing and putting in drawers will be well worth the effort of putting this system into place! It's also worth the sacrifice of space in her closet. With a small apartment, storage space is hard to come by. Some baby stuff that is bigger and a few bags of toys are stored at my mom's home in her basement. Other things I've just kept in her closet for now. It might look a bit chaotic but I promise there is a system in place! I've tried to label what is where below in the pictures and I will share where certain organization pieces came from as well.
Whenever we do decide to have another baby, they will get her tall 5 drawer dresser from Wayfair and we will get her a bigger dresser as her clothes get bigger.
Here are some images and explanations of how we organize our 2 year old daughter's clothing, shoes and accessories. She is in a size 3t clothing and size 8/9 shoe currently if that helps!
This system works great for us and we are easily able to find what we're looking for in her drawers. The every day/play clothes get the most use as we wear those at home and outside. Her pajama drawer is typically very full and I have to fold carefully to get it to close as her pajamas are getting bigger in size and we like to put her in fleece at night.
See her closet below and how we keep it organized.
Her hanging laundry hamper came from Amazon. We bought it a few days after she was born and we love that it saves so much room and holds a lot of items!
Her door organizer also came from Amazon. I keep slippers, winter items, medicine, hair supplies, shoes in the size she is in currently and the next size up and I like to keep hair bows here so I can match her outfits to them easily.
There are bins up top and on bottom that hold her outgrown clothing that I want to keep for a future baby. If we don't have another girl I plan to donate a lot and bless another mama and keep the sentimental things.
Current size nicer clothing/church clothes hang here. The three pink baskets we have came from TJ Maxx. The tan basket that my diaper backpack sits on holds outgrown shoes. The Minnie Mouse tote next to it is our bag we take for road trips that holds toys she's not seen in awhile and activities.
I keep her basket of dress up accessories and her dress up clothing hanging low so so she can get them herself if she wants to play with them.
On the left are some baby items I'm storing. Her big girl bedding is also there for when we put together her big girl room.
On the right side of her closet hangs her 4t clothes to grow into. Since she's set on her current size, if a grandparent asks what size she's needing when they find a sale I tell them the next size up so she's set once she's in that size. I also have her Halloween costume for this year tucked in the back so it's still good to wear come October. I found it on sale after last Halloween for $2.50 at Walmart. I plan to do the same this year!
And here is what her 3 bins hold. Easy access and I like to keep things separate so it's much easier to find what we need.
I think that about covers it! I had to do a major initial purge/organization when she was around a year old and that set me up to just put things into place with a bi monthly or so look through to make sure we're wearing what we can while it still fits and either storing or donating what no longer fits.
My mom finds great sales for her at Carter's/Osh Kosh and the Children's Place. She's also found large lots of good things on Marketplace.
I come across a lot of great sales at Walmart. Typically I can wait on something to go on sale there and will grab it for $1-$3 depending what it is.
A lot of her stuff is second hand or found cheap! You just have to hunt a little. But she also runs around in stained and marked on clothing most of the time with the exception of church or special events.
I hope you find this helpful! I love to see how other people organize so I thought I would share some photos.
With heart from our home,
Jordan
