Leighton woke up early again today and I heard Josh go in to get her and rock her. I’m sure his intention was to coax her back to sleep, but she had other plans and chattered away, filling him in on all of her 2 year old stories. I could hear her talking but stayed in bed a bit longer before getting up to start breakfast and make coffee.
I could tell early on she wasn’t feeling her best. Congestion, small cough and nasal drip. She’s learned to blow her nose with mommy and daddy’s help, which I’m grateful for because we no longer have her Nose Frida. Also, they’re $20 brand new, say what?!
We had plans to go to Josh’s parents this morning which I try and do once a week. It’s relaxing for me to have the extra hands and Leighton loves her grandparents [and the attention]. Since she still had energy and wasn’t feverish I decided to keep our plans to go. I wiped her nose several hundred times while there, but she was her usual self. We needed diapers and I wanted to get her allergy/cold meds after, so we headed to Walmart when we left. She was so sleepy while in the store, though she will never admit to being tired. She hasn’t napped in a year or so and never napped consistently. I knew I had my guard down on buying her a new toy because she just looked and sounded so pitiful. So when she asked for a baby doll, I admitted defeat and also got her a new doll carrier because the one she has [mine from the early 90s] has seen much better days.
So with a new baby doll and carrier in tow we grabbed a large box of size 6 diapers and a duo pack of cold meds for night and day.
Not my finest debt free journey moment but this is one of those times I’m giving myself grace. We got into the car with intentions of heading home to eat the last of a lunch prep and our sweet girl fell asleep! I can’t tell you when the last time she fell asleep in the car was. Not even on long road trips to see family does she nap. She cuddled her new baby and dozed off slowly. The only problem was, this mama was hungry!
So I drove around and then decided to text my husband that although we had every intention to not spend outside of necessities this month, I was getting Wendy’s. I figure if the drive thru speaker woke her up, i’d at least have fries to offer her. But she didn’t wake up. And the horrid bumps in the concrete didn’t wake her either.
We made it home and she woke up for a few seconds with a vacant expression and then back to sleep she went. I ate my Wendy’s like I hadn’t eaten in days [it’s my favorite fast food place] and have been reading a blog I enjoy. I’m not sure how long this will last as my feet are getting cold, but I’ll take the quiet!
I pray she’s just having allergies or a small cold and it’s not anything else. Thankful she’s getting rest and choosing to enjoy my Dr Pepper instead of be hard on myself for eating out!
With heart from our home,
Jordan
