Sniffles Continued & an Easy Sticker Remover

Well, Leighton's little cold has continued though she has maintained her energy. The first day was the worst and the last couple nights have been rough with her waking up congested. Last night she was up around 1am so we gave her another dose of night time meds and she went back to sleep until 6:20. Today she's had some coughing but I'm hoping it's just drainage and she's getting back to normal. Josh's mom is coming to watch her this evening so Josh and I can go on a short date since it's been a really long times since we've gone out just us. If she's not better we'll of course stay home so she doesn't spread it or miss her mommy and daddy when she's not well.

Our weekend cleaning job and putting all extra cash toward debt this year has stunted our date nights a bit but we're talking about making them a priority again. We like to have our longer (uninterrupted) talks once Leighton goes to bed or put on a show, read together, etc. but there is something very refreshing about actually leaving home and being just the two of us. Josh had read something awhile back and shared it with me that said if you make your children everything to you while they're home and don't actively pursue your spouse, once your children leave the home you're left with a stranger and no connection. We're actively fighting against that since it is so very easy to make everything about your child!

I was able to get quite a bit of cleaning done this morning, I caught up on a couple days of my Bible reading and read half of a chapter in a book written by our pastor that has been great for me in this season. It's called Abiding in Physical Health and you can get a copy HERE. Right now I'm reading about renewing your mind and how it's your responsibility to do so. I've been meaning to hang scripture on notecards around our apartment and might actually take the time to do it today! Scripture about marriage in the bedroom, Scripture about motherhood in the living room, etc. Something that really stood out to me in the book is we can be very knowledgable about the Word, attend church on Sunday's, go through all the motions of being a Christian but not actually have a renewed mind. We have to abide daily in Him in order to reach this.

I also wanted to share a one ingredient way of removing stickers from surfaces. This may be known to many, but it was news to me! Leighton came home from church about a month ago and I removed her outfit before lunch to avoid stains but left her children's church sticker on it. It was washed and dried and I didn't know how to remove it! According to google, soak a white cloth in rubbing alcohol and apply it to the sticker. You might have to pick at it a bit but it will come off. Then rewash and dry the clothing. It worked! Today I used it on stickers that have been stuck to our window and they weren't budging. It took some time and elbow grease but alas, the window is now sticker free! Definitely one I will remember because there are bound to be many more Mickey Mouse stickers stuck to surfaces of our home in the future.

Happy Friday!

Jordan

Single Serving Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe

I had a few hours to myself today and decided to search for a good single serving chocolate chip cookie recipe. I found one by cookingclassy.com and thankfully it turned out so great! It was similar to the taste and size of Crumbl Cookies chocolate chip cookie (they are my favorite!) The dough is a very crumbly consistency so I recommend once you have your baking sheet lined with parchment paper to just dump it on top and form it into a large disc. I had a hard time trying to get the dough to come together so I opted to do this instead. See the recipe below! Ingredients: 2 TBSP butter (I used unsalted) 3 TBSP packed light-brown sugar. 1 pinch of salt. 1 TBSP whisked egg (crack egg in bowl and mix up well then scoop out 1 TBSP and add to your bowl.) 1/4 tsp vanilla. 1/3 cup all purpose flour. 1/8 tsp baking soda. 3-4 TBSP chocolate chips.  Recipe: Melt butter in microwave until only a little left is unmelted. mix together so that all is melted. Place butter in fridge to cool s...

Easy Chili Recipe

I recently made a large crock pot batch of chili on a cold Saturday. We took the pot to my in-laws house and enjoyed it together. My MIL made delicious corn bread (she said it was Zattarans boxed mix) and cajun crackers to eat along with it.  The chili was SO easy, packed with protein, cheap to make and our 3 year old loved it! See recipe below. Ingredients: 1 lb ground beef 1 lb ground turkey 2 onions, chopped Garlic Powder to taste 4 cans diced tomato 1 can tomato sauce 1 can chili beans 2 cans kidney beans 2 packs of chili powder (ours was from Aldi) Recipe: Brown ground turkey, ground beef and two onions in skillet. Add garlic powder. Drain and place in crock pot. Add in all other ingredients in pot and mix well. Cover and place on low for flavors to come together. We left ours on low for about 4 hours. Pair with corn bread, saltines or crusty bread! Easy and delicious cold weather meal. I hope you enjoy! With heart from our home,  Jordan
